April 2010

This has been sitting waiting for a few weeks, whilst I settle with it.  Like previous months I have needle felted a background on to a piece of craft felt, then I  did some free machine embroidery to create the initial structure of the image.  Then I basically built up the texture with beads and embroidery using some fuzzy wool I pick up cheaply over the years. Its quite a heavy piece!

This is the image I started with . Image removed see this blogger's post on copy right
May is still a work in progress and given that I have decided to bead the whole surface of the piece it might well be a while before it is complete But here is a teaser

Hi Jacqui! I am so glad to have clicked on your piece - it is quite, quite marvelous (I like it waaaay better than the photo). What you've done with all the bits&bobs you've sewn down is so wonderful, not to mention the felting...I think you are on to something, a good path to be on. I'd like to climb on those rocks on the left!

May is indeed a *teaser* for me...I so so love orange. But bead the entire surface???? maybe felt needs to keep its voice too? just think'in.

WONDERFUL!!!!

Wow, Jacqui!!! These are both so painterly... the effect of a dramatic water color painting only done with wool, thread and beads. I love the combination of hand and machine embroidery on April (and showing in May's piece too), your colors, and the abstract nature of your designs.
I agree with Sweetpea that your piece is waaaaaay more compelling than the photo!
